I have begun a page to showcase my handmade artist books. Here is the first – click on the photo to see the pages in detail.
Migration – a unique artist book
My slotted spine pdf document is still available as a free download here:
However if you are a person that prefers to learn by watching rather than by reading I have made a 2 part video tutorial (approx. 28 mins) available at my Etsy shop (15.00 US). This is a comprehensive coverage of all the material summarised in the free pdf. The videos are yours to download and keep for future reference.
Now that I have created my own space on the world wide web, all of my free journal making tutorials are in the one place:
You will find my latest tutorial a single signature hard cover simple stitched journal there as well.
All of the tutorials have downloadable pdfs, some have accompanying videos.
I have posted another bookbinding tutorial over on Motley Soul Mixed Media Art . This one I have put in the category of “More Complex Sewing” as opposed to simple sewing.
This is a Ning powered site, where you need to join the site. (It is free.) We have about 120 members interested in Art Journaling and Mixed Media.
Mika from Motley Soul has allowed me to set up my own group. There is a downloadable pdf with step by step instructions. There will also be a 2 1/2 minute video to watch. (Hopefully Vimeo will approve it soon.) (Hear the Aussie Accent my friends lol)
I have been invited by Mika on Ning to host my own group. This community is just getting off the ground but shows great promise, as an area for more than art journaling, with plans to head into printmaking, painting and other forms of mixed media.
I am planning a journal making group with tutorials on making handmade books. I will be setting it up in January as I will be on the farm until then. I am leaving for South Australia in just under a fortnight.
I am hoping that I have better luck with my mobile internet stick, it turned out the one I was using in May was faulty, and when I got home it was replaced. My sister was saying just last night that they are having internet troubles again, so it is a problem area.
Anyway if you are into mixed media head over to Motley Soul and check it out.
This altered book, On Gilded Wings was exhibited in an exhibition called Totems – organised by Fibres and Fabrics (my local fibreart group last year), I didn’t blog about it during the making of it as it was for the exhibition, and afterwards, well I was totally over it.
The original book was a landscape orientated book on weaving. For me, birds represent freedom, freedom from oppression, freedom of speech, freedom to create, freedom to be.
Lately I revisited it on my bookshelf and fell in love again, so I took the time to scan and upload, hopefully for your enjoyment as well.
